About Tiskita Lodge

Tiskita LodgeTiskita Lodge - Pool

Tiskita Lodge is a collection of 16 individual cabins and private rooms set amid rich forests and fruiting trees. In total, Tiskita comprises a 550 acre private biological reserve, of primary, secondary and reforested areas, as well as 37 acres of tropical fruit orchards and farm, featuring over 100 exotic fruits, including carambola, mango, mangosteen, guanabana, durian, pineapple, papaya, breadfruit, guava, vanilla, zapote, and more.

The newest addition to Tiskita Jungle Lodge is a refreshing pool set on a high hillside. Take a cool dip, while you watch the waves crash below and the birds and monkeys frolic around you. While you're at Tiskita a daily range of activities and guided hikes are available free of charge.

Tiskita Lodge Rooms

Tiskita Lodge - CabinasTsikita Lodge - Rooms

Each room has a comfortable queen-sized bed or two twins, a ceiling fan, bedside tables, armoires and a private bathroom. Most of these bathrooms are actually outdoors (although with plenty of protection and privacy), allowing you the unique and delightful experience of enjoying the spectacular sights and proximity of our jungle while you shower, shave and brush your teeth.

All of the rooms feature broad verandahs with sweeping panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Osa Peninsula. These verandahs are thoughtfully equipped with both comfortable sitting chairs and even more comfortable string hammocks.

Meals & More

Meals are served in our large main dining room, which is open to the fresh ocean breezes and just steps away from our fabulous views. Our cooks prepare a variety of hearty Costa Rican dishes, with an emphasis on our fresh, homegrown fruits and vegetables, as well as locally raised beef and poultry, and, of course, fish fresh from the nearby Pacific Ocean. Fresh natural fruit juices, hot coffee and tea are available all day long.

We also have a comfortable bar area open from noon to 10:00pm everyday. This is a wonderful spot to gather with other guests, to discuss and compare sights and thrills from the day's activities.

For those times when you're not on a trail, in the ocean or soaking in our pool or relaxing in your hammock, we have a wide selection of natural history books, popular novels, board games and-we're especially proud of this-a new homemade ping-pong table.

What To Bring

Tiskita Jungle Lodge is a remote tropical retreat with no televisions, no telephones, and no fax. Adventure travel in Costa Rica is different than most other forms of tourism and a little foresight and planning will make your trip much more enjoyable.

Getting There

By Plane
The most common & popular way to get to Tiskita is by small chartered plane to our private airstrip. The flight is a 55 minute jaunt that leaves from San José's Pavas International Airport and passes over the Cordillera Talamanca mountain range before descending slightly and following the Pacific coast south from Manuel Antonio to Dominical to the Osa Peninsula, where it crosses over the peninsula and follows the Golfo Dulce down south to Tiskita Lodge. Round-trip transportation is included in most packages to Tiskita.

By Car
The drive to Tiskita Jungle Lodge from San José passes through some of the most scenic regions in the country. The most popular route heads out of San José along the Inter American Highway to the town of Cartago, where you head into the hills and cloud forests of the Cerro de la Muerte (Mountain Pass of Death), coming out of the Cerro de la Muerte you'll pass through the cities of San Isidro and Palmar Norte on your way to Golfito. Once in Golfito (actually just before you reach Golfito proper) you'll turn off onto the dirt roads that head towards Pavones and Playa Zancudo. After 10 kilometers you'll have to take a small car ferry crossing over the Coto River. Continue on, following the signs to Pavones. Once you reach the small village and surfing mecca of Pavones it's another 6 kilometers to Tiskita .

An alternative route takes the Costanera Sur, a well-graded and soon-to-be paved coastal highway. You can pick up the Costanera Sur by either heading out of San José towards the beaches of Jacó and Manuel Antonio and continuing on south, or by turning towards the ocean and the beach town of Dominical at San Isidro. Once you reach Ciudad Cortes you will continue on to Palmar Norte, joining up with the Inter American Highway, and then follow the directions above. This route will take a little bit longer, but is considered by many to be one of the more scenic drives in Costa Rica (particularly the stretch from Dominical to Ciudad Cortés).

A four-wheel drive vehicle is necessary in the rainy season, and high clearance is always useful. Due to extreme weather and heavy rains, road conditions can change rapidly in Costa Rica and the road to Pavones and Tiskita is occasionally closed. It is always best to call the lodge to find out current conditions and what route is best for you.

By Bus
There is regular bus service from San José to Golfito. From Golfito, there is a daily bus to Pavones. It is best to call the office to find out the most current and accurate bus schedule and information. On weekends can call to Puerto Jiménez office (phone number: 735-5375) to have any information.
