HOLA, COMO ESTAS? –
PURA VIDA! Language is
the key to finding out about a country, its culture and its inhabitants. In our guest
house you can take part in Spanish courses (either individual or group sessions) which are
run by qualified teachers, all with a great deal of experience in teaching their native
language.
In no time at all, you you can achieve linguistic competence at various levels. The
Cultourica concept combines creative learning with a sound grounding in Spanish grammar.
Learn to deal with everyday
situations in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. You'll discover a great deal about the
country and its people and this will stand you in good stead when you set off on your
excursion. We specialize in the music, literature and ecology of Latin America. For us,
language learning is synonymous with cultural learning.
The courses utilize various teaching materials and audio-visual aids but it's our teachers
who play the most important role. They all work in their mother tongue but many also speak
English. And, for further practice or future exchanges, we can arrange contacts on a
tandem basis with Costa Ricans who are studying English.
In the very personal atmosphere of the Albergue EL MARAÑON, learning Spanish is quite
simply fun. Everybody can join in and individual requirements are easily catered for,
because the groups are small. Classes are held outside in the bamboo pavilion, so during
the breaks you can stroll around the tropical gardens, watch the humming birds in action
or help yourself to some mango fruit. We timetable the classes to ensure that you have
plenty of opportunity to explore San José and the Central Valley or to relax in a
hammock, if the fancy takes you.

The choice is yours

beginner, beginner with some knowledge, intermediate and advanced (=

Extra-curricular
programme
In addition to the courses we run a number of extra-
curricular activities.
Each week there is one cultural event of topical interest, one excursion (a national
park or local project) and one evening of entertainment.

Dancing lessons
As well as the Spanish language, you can take instruction in dance e.g. the salsa, the
merengue or the bolero. Arrangements can be made during your stay.
