- English/Spanish dictionary (the Institute provides textbooks), paper and pencil
- comfortable clothing for studying and working in a warm climate
- binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellent and your personal equipment
How to get to Longo Mai:
If you are in San Jose, take a MUSOC bus to San Isidro del General de Perez Zeledon. There are buses daily at 5:30, 7:00, 10:30, 11:30, 13:30, 14:30, 16:30, 17:00, 17:30 from their stations on Calle central, avenidas 22 and 24 in front of Maternidad Carit, barrio Carit. It takes you about 3 hours to get to San Isidro del General and costs around ¢1000 ($3). When you are in San Isidro del General, take a bus at the GAFESO station (avenida 2, between calles 3 and 5 or 100 ms east from the cathedral) to a town called Buenos Aires. There are buses, daily 5:15, 6:00, 7:20, 8:30, 10:00, 11:30, 12:15, 13:30, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00. In the bus, tell the bus driver that you must get off at Longo Mai (it takes around 45 minutes, from San Isidro del General to Longo Mai).
When you get off, you will see a stony road to the north and a sign that says Longo Mai. Walk about 1,5 kilometer uphill on this road and you will be at the small village.
There, ask for the Language Institute or for Mr. Eduardo Rivera or Mrs. Consuelo Rivera.
Another possibility to get there from San Jose:
If you are in San Jose, take a TRACOPA bus (San Jose-Palmar Norte). Calle 14, Ave. 5. It costs about ¢1400 ($4). There are buses daily 5:00, 7:00, 8:30, 10:00,13:00, 14:30, 18:00. Tell the bus driver that you must get off in Longo Mai.
There is the posibility that someone picks you up at the airport in San Jose.
