Tours & Excursions
Costa Rica is a safe and beautiful land in which to travel, and the Central Valley is an ideal starting point for tours and excursions.

Tours & Excursions
The Academia Tica runs a small travel agency where you can get tourist information and make reservations. We organize half-day excursions (to the Irazú or Poás volcanoes, for instance), day-long and weekend excursions, stays in jungle lodges for animal observation, and trips to the ocean with the opportunity to stay in everything from a simple guest house to a high-class four-star hotel. The most popular excursion destinations are the Arenal volcano, Arenal Lake, the two volcanoes mentioned above, Monteverde, the Tortugero National Park, and the Nicoya peninsula, as well as Jacó, Manuel Antonio, and Guanacaste.

For your stay in Coronado and San José you should count on spending around $50 to $80 a week, if you live with a guest family and receive half board.

How to get to the Academia Tica in Coronado

Juan Santa Maria International Airport: Daily international connections to many locations. If you are staying with a guest family, you will be picked up at the airport by a representative of the Academia Tica and brought to your family, as long as you give us your arrival time in advance. Travel time from the airport takes around 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the traffic.

With a car: From the San José city center through Guadalupe to (S. Isidro de) Coronado to the church, continue on in the direction of the central bus station, from there go about 900 meters in the direction of San Rafael and Las Nubes. The entrance to Quinta Toyopán is on the left.

With the public bus: Buses travel between the central bus station in Coronado and «calle central y avenida 7» in the center of San José from early in the morning until 11:00 p.m.
