Coronado (approx. 60,000 inhabitants)
is located just 10 kilometers northeast of the center of San José
on the outskirts of the Braulio Carrillo nature reserve. Living
in Coronado provides you with all the advantages of a clean natural
area, and at the same time it gives you the opportunity to enjoy
the cultural activities of the capital city.
Green Coronado is a lively rural city
with an active community life. It is the seat of numerous respected
institutions, such as the Interamerican Institute for Agriculture
(IICA), the Center for Central American Social Studies (ICAES),
the Costa Rican Olympic Committee, and the world-famous snake
research center of the University of Costa Rica, the Instituto
Clodomiro Picado. Here you can also find everything for your day-to-day
needs: modern supermarkets, a sunday market, doctors, banks, traditional
sodas, and even pizzerias and American-style restaurants. A large
gothic cathedral towers over Coronado.
All of our guest families live near
the school in Coronado. They are carefully chosen, and they embody
the best traditional Latin American values – an ideal environment
for learning Spanish and getting an authentic picture of life
and culture in Middle America.
New Coffee Shops In Coronado
There are
two new coffee shops in Coronado and they have proven to be very
popular with our students. Their names are: Kaffa and Honey.
Kaffa is located
100 meters west and 50 meters south of the northwest corner of
the park in Coronado. Honey is located in a corner, 100 meters
north of the northwest corner of the park in Coronado. Both serve
great coffee and other hot drinks, pastries, a few selected dishes
and a nice clean and quiet place to meet during the afternoons
and evenings.
