You will find out fast that the situation is not as good as it seems to be. Costa Rica has many own educated people (countless courses and other educational stuff offered) and also nobody will pay you more than they would pay to a Costarican, and this is not much. If you want to work for about US$ 300 per month and you are happy with it, your chances are a little better.

However, even than companies prefer to hire Costaricans. Be prepared, that they will ask you for your drivers license and an own car. Almost all companies expect this.

At the same time, they will ask you for your "Cedula de Residencia" or any kind of residencial permit. Maybe you think you can show it to the company after receiving it. Wrong since this can take some years in some cases and no company will risk this. You will need much patience.

If you still want to look for work in Costa Rica, ask the "Camara Industria de Costa Rica". They know about jobs and help you but you have to pay a high fee. Best is to look at the ads of La Nacion..

After realising that it does not make too much sence to work as an employee in Costa Rica, we want to talk about an own business now. If you decide to open a business here and even hire local workers, you have the best chances. Never think about taking a loan because the interest is as high as 30 % which would break your neck.

Special Restaurant (for example German, not available yet!)
Bavarian Beer Garden (difficult, needs alcohol license)
Discotheque (needs good technical equipment)
Replacement Parts (Household Electronic, etc.)

All tips need enough money to start as well as knowledge of Spanish. If you have doubts and think about loans, forget the idea fast.

Our hint: Do not do anything in tourism, since hotels and B&B businesses got opened everywhere in the country and I know enough people having problems and many hotels are for sale. Except: If you have good contacts to the travel industry and you can provide an excellent managment and friendly service.
